PROTECT HER Sierra Leone is a women’s rights organization that is aimed at advocating for women, youths, and children to achieve equality and empowerment in Sierra Leone. This organization was established by a female journalist who has a passion for changing the negative social norms and violations affecting the human rights of women and children in their societies. She has the unweaving desire to see women, youths, and girls protected from issues affecting their growth and development and for them to be empowered through her widely listened to radio program called Woman Concern broadcast on classic radio FM 99.7FM in Bo City Southern Sierra Leone. The Protect Her initiative was born out of many concerns by women and girls issues brought to her knowledge by her guests in her radio show and the stories she and her colleagues journalists report from the field. She thought of establishing this organization to collaborate with like-minded partners and duty-bearers nationally and intentionally to protect women and girls against various forms of human rights violations and abuses.
Protect Her Sierra Leone supports women, youths, and children as a set standard for achieving equality, and works with government and other civil society organizations to design laws, policies, programs, and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit woman and girls across the country. It may also operate in the long run globally to make the vision of sustainable development goals a reality for women and girls and stand behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life
Protect Her Sierra Leone is committed to working with others to end injustice, that aims at creating an enabling environment for women, girls, and youth to maximize their fullest potential to contribute meaningfully towards the development of themselves, family, their community, and the country at large, and to build a world that upholds the rights and dignity of all. We recognize that to work with integrity we must walk and ensure that anyone who comes into contact with Protect Her-SL is protected from any form of injustice, discrimination, or abuse, which includes gender-based violence and climate injustice.
Despite the tremendous efforts made by other civil society organizations and government agencies in protecting the rights and dignity of women, youths, and girls, there is a need to bridge the gap in the area of protecting women and girls as sexual and gender-based violence is still on the increase in the country.
Wherein, an organization in a bid to achieve its broader objectives and goals, seeks to participate meaningfully in nation-building by using all resources at its disposal in that direction.
